Open Question: Why does my husband think it’s ok to hide female “friends” from me?
My husband and I have been together 6 years we’re both 35. He had a partying lifestyle before we met and I did not. I have never asked too much detail about his prior escapades because what little he has told me hasn’t been what I would consider the best behaivor and the past is the past. One thing I do know is how he used to make friends and that was by meeting people (mostly women) in chat rooms and then meeting in person.

He stays up until 3-4am online almost every night on his laptop. In the past I have joked about him surfing porn or chatting online, not actually being serious. Last week when I got my cell phone bill I noticed he had been text messaging this one number back and forth late at night for at least an hour. This is odd because my husband is not a texting type of guy. So a little research (amazing what $14.95 public records search will buy you online) and found out the name and address of the person who’s number was on my bill. When confronted, he says that it is a friend from the past that he just decided to contact. Ok, so I ask to meet her because any friend of his, especially a woman is a friend of mine.

He wont allow it. He says that he doesn’t have to answer to me. Now of course I begin to question all his late night internet time as well. I explained that in my opinion if he will not introduce me to any woman he claims to be a friend, he is either 1.) embarrased of me or 2.) embarrased of the true nature of his relationship with this person.

I guess I am old fashioned, I have work associates that are male but are not “friends” and I don’t talk with them outside of work. The few close friends I have are all women. I don’t believe it is proper for a married man to have a female friend. I could accept it if I were able to meet her but that doesn’t seem to need to happen.

I called the number, got a voice mail, very nicely introduced myself and gave her my home ph# and cell ph# and told her (calling her by her name…probably freaked her out) that I would love to know how she knows MY husband and to please call me back. I checked online with our cell phone provider to view current usage and about 2 hrs later I see that she sent him a text message and he replied. He wont say what they discussed but he claims I freaked her out. I told him she better be freaked out.

I sent her a text message the next morning and told her that if she was a true “friend” and nothing else, then I’d love to meet her, otherwise I’m only going to ask once to stop contact with MY husband.

I told him given his past history of meeting people online it makes me very suspcious and he should in now way be “friends” with any female he’s had sex with, wanted to have sex with, etc. etc…

Ugh….
