Open Question: How can i purpose to my parents that i am ready for a cell phone? please help.?
i’m 13 and i want to get my first cell phone. my parents have previously said “No” but that was almost a year ago and i’m ready to try again. its getting very irritating not to be able to call my friends.
i want a 16GB iPhone 4. i’ve configured the calling plan, and i ended up with: 450mins (i don’t talk that much), no texting (i don’t text), and 2GB Data (i need the internet capability the most, and i can just tether it to my MacBook Pro by jailbreaking it, and save $30/mo.)
in total, it costs $64.99/mo. i can make maybe $350-$450 a month, but i don’t want to spend more than $100 a month on phone service.
i already have an iPod Touch, so don’t recommend that to me. but its over 2 years old, and it crashes ALL the time. i started typing this question on it, but then it CRASHED and i had to retype it! i’m typing it on my Mac Pro now. this is also why i want to upgrade to an iPhone, which has enough RAM to run applications steadily… over twice what my Touch has…
please DON’T tell me i’m too young to have an iPhone! this is the 21st Century!! WHY don’t any of you allow any change! this is how the world works! CHANGE. just because “we didn’t have these fancy schmancy machines when i was a youngin’” doesn’t mean we can’t have them now.
how about this, a couple hundred years ago, if a woman wore pants (not a dress) she was considered to be rebellious and disrespectful. NOW, women who wear pants aren’t viewed as any different from the others.
i believe that the same thing is for today’s controversy against teenagers owning electronic devices. in 150 yrs-200 yrs, we will all wonder what was wrong with us.
while i do acknowledge some of the dangers of teens owning personal internet devices (pornog.raphy, internet stalkers, identity theft etc.) i think the positives (learning from the internet, using for emergencies, useful apps like the unit converter, etc.) far outweigh the dangers. and if you’re careful, you won’t run into any of the dangers.
iPhones are great learning devices. i have an iPod Touch 2G, and i learned more from that awesome little device than i learned from school or books in my entire life! you all fail to realize the potential of these magnificent devices.
many of you will probably ask how i make all this money, well, here it is: i make my money by doing yard work for my parents and relatives, and doing random odd jobs around the neighborhood. i doo very well in school too (straight A’s and B’s) so i reel in a respectable sum every couple months to reward my good work and behavior.
i also make about the other 60% of my money by sending in video’s i have made using my Mac Pro to contests. i make special effects videos and i send them in to various contests a couple times a month. i usually win because my videos are of almost professional quality, and i intend to be a film director or editor when i grow up.
i also save most of my money too. i keep it for years on end to buy hugely expensive things. i saved for 3 years to buy my Mac Pro (2.66hz 8-Core Intel Xenon) and 1 1/2 years for my 15″ MacBook Pro Core i7, which i JUST bought, and it is amazing.
i am now saving for a 30″ Apple HD display to accompany one of my old DELL displays.
i would also of course pay for the iPhone and the monthly fee.
please be open minded about all of this. i’m just sharing my thoughts.
haha, sorry that this is turning into more of a lecture than a Yahoo question, but i just thought i’d give you all a piece of my mind, and show you the truth, because i asked this question 4 times before, and ALL i got was a bunch of angry adults telling my i’m too young for an iPhone (or a cellular phone, for that matter)…………….
please just take all this into consideration, and give me some real answers, not just some nagging.
my best friend just got an iPhone for his birthday, and that is what kicked me into overdrive to get a cell phone.
they said they were going to get me a cell phone for emergencies (not an iPhone, probably some crappy samsung or something) but then, my Mom backed out because she thought it was too expensive just to add another phone (she over-saves her money, LOL) but, now that i’m willing and able to pay the bills, i’m wondering if she’ll reconsider.
please give me some good answers! =)
Thanks!!
Open Question: The Pluto in Scorpio generation, born approximately 1984-1996?
I have a younger Brother and Cousins, Did anyone else notice how friendly and sexual when I say sexual I dont mean active, like they are constantly making same sex jokes of affection to eachother, the younger kids are these days? and how much less they well they all get along? Race or sexuality just isn’t an issue, Example: noticed they still have clothes at the mall for my generation, some guys will just NEVER wear pink, your take on this?
The Pluto in Scorpio generation, born approximately 1984-1996, is developing its own generational personality. It is a generation whose older members—teenagers and very early twenty-somethings—are the subjects of much stereotyping: “They’re so profane—every other word has just four letters…and what’s up with all the black clothing…the ‘hoodies’…the dark sunglasses…the car window tinting…the scowling countenances?”
Today’s Pluto in Scorpio generation can be quite off-putting to many older adults. Every generation has its ways of rebelling. The challenging Pluto in Scorpio square to Pluto in Leo (those who were born approximately 1939-1958) means that Baby Boomers—a huge swath of the population—find this generation especially troublesome and difficult.
Raised on R-rated movie dialogue and rap lyrics, the Pluto in Scorpio generation sometimes come across as excessively profane. Most have been exposed their whole lives to a media culture which promotes sex, violence, and celebrity. They are helping to re-invigorate poker gambling and other addictive pursuits. Of course, this is not the whole story. This generation also has–among many other positive qualities–an intense and selfless need to share, perhaps related to Scorpio’s association with the 8th house of shared resources.
The Pluto in Scorpio generation is hooked into the 8th house (a Scorpio house) ideal of shared resources, just as the Pluto in Leo generation embodies the positive 5th house ideals of individuality and creativity. The resources the Pluto in Scorpio generation are beginning to share are their own self-created networks, often connected through digital technology.
Digital networks and online groups like MySpace are a Uranus-Neptune trend. Their use by the Pluto in Scorpio generation aligns with that generation’s emphasis on shared resources. The digital world allows for a shared information resource, in the form of e-pinions, e-mails, text messaging, instant messaging, etc. Today, new music bands and trends are launched via these Pluto in Scorpio digital networks.
A recent New York Times article probes this part of the Pluto in Scorpio generation, whom the reporter refers to as the millennials (a term coined by Neil Strauss and William Howe in their 2000 book, Millennials Rising). In the article, one high-tech company executive stated, “With the technology, the Internet – in terms of being able to facilitate the social networking, which is a big part of this younger group – there’s just so much ability to quickly transfer information.” A problem with the almost obsessive need to share via instant messaging, text messaging, cell phones, and blogs is that personal identity can become lost. As one young person commented in the article, “It’s like, if you don’t check your e-mail and you turn off your phone, it’s almost like you don’t exist.” If you go to a movie at the local multiplex, note the number of teenagers engaged in silent text messaging on their cell phones during the movie. The subject of the text messaging is often the movie they are watching— how it’s going, how they like it, etc. Although many adults may find this activity to be a public annoyance, Pluto in Scorpio kids are always connected, always sharing.
Projecting ahead, one can envision other shared resources which may figure prominently as the Pluto in Scorpio generation gets older and assumes positions of leadership: economic resources, ecological resources, etc. Since Pluto and Scorpio are both attuned to crises, we can expect that these shared resources will become important as the result of a future generational crisis or series of crises.
I recently read David McCullough’s new book, 1776. Although in 1776, Pluto was in the late degrees of Capricorn, some of the soldiers who fought, led, and died for both sides in the Revolutionary War had Pluto in Scorpio. In 1776, anyone between the ages of about 28 and 40 would have belonged to a Pluto in Scorpio generation. General Nathaniel Greene and Thomas Paine, both with Pluto in Scorpio, feature heroically in McCullough’s book. The third U.S. President and primary author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, was also a member of the Pluto in Scorpio generation.
Resolved Question: how much does it cost for the lowest iPhone 4 plan?
i don’t text, i rarely use the phone, but i really need the mobile internet capability of the iPhone (i can’t use an iTouch).
how much would the monthly fee for the phone be if i had minimal minutes, no texting, and the data plan?
i’m 13 and im going to be getting my first cell phone. i can make maybe $350-$450 a month, but i don’t want to spend more than $100 a month on phone service.
