Resolved Question: When money is an issue between partners in a relationship is that a problem?
My girlfriend works two jobs. Her primary job is working as a trainer at a bank that she has done since she graduated from college. Her second job is selling concessions at a sports park that is a seasonal job she has done since high school. Since divorcing her ex husband she has moved back with her family. She helps her family out with expenses but most of her money she spends throughout the year on traveling and dining out with her friends.
I am divorced. I left my full time job about four years ago to pursue an opportunity with a small business that went out of business. I tried to return to my previous employer but it was a union job and they had a hiring freeze at the time so I could not go back. I was living with my parents until last year when we sold the family home and my parents went into a retirement community.
I work several part time jobs to support myself and I got some money from the sale of the house as well as a severance from my former employer. I have started my own business but in this economy my level of clients and productivity has made it pretty much an extra income thing rather than the latest Fortune 500 concern that I could devote to full time and retire off of. Since my family sold the house, I have been looking for full time work and haven’t had much luck. I am living in a one bedroom appartment that costs me about $1,000 a month rent. My heat is electric and that’s running about $30 a month. My cable bill with TV and internet is $160. My landline and cell phone are $30 and $70. My landlord has WiFi in the apartment building so one idea is that I can buy my own modem and get a wireless router and take the Internet service off of my cable bill.
Anyway, my girlfriend’s lifestyle is very costly to maintain. She doesn’t like to eat at fast food restaurants because she likes wine with her dinner. She likes to go out with her friends to places where you have to dress up to go there and the waiter will come around throughout the meal pouring the wine like it’s water, constantly filling up everyone’s glass.
We will often go out with a dozen of her friends. We have set up a debit card that we both put in a certain amount each week. However, when I go out with her friends the last time it cost me $350 so I had to put in extra money so that there would be sufficient funds in the account so that the debit would not bounce.
Her friends invite us to go on escape weekend trips on the weekends. We get free accommodations but then we are doing other stuff that winds up costing me a small fortune. Breakfast, lunch and dinner dining out. Night clubs. Seeing a comedy show and drinks. The casinos. She loves to go to places where people drink and she drinks like a fish.
Bills of $200, $300, and $400 for a tab are not uncommon. I use our debit card and pour my own money into the account to make up the difference.
I have four credit cards and my total credit card debt is about $20,000. With my limited income I am just able to pay the minimum payments.
She went off this weekend with one of her girlfriends who has a time share in Orlando. She had to pay for the airfare and will share costs for food and entertainment.
When she left she said to me “at least with my girlfriend I don’t have to deal with someone who is always nickle and diming every time we want to go out or do something.” She calls me cheap and laughs when I look at the bill instead of just letting the waiter swipe the card like it’s nothing.
She told me that her helping me out with our debit card is “something I do because I feel sorry for you.” She believes that a man should be able to afford to take a woman out for dinner and drinks and should pay for everything.
One time one of her friends husbands decided to treat the entire group to dinner. She turned to me and said “that’s something that you would never do” and laughed at me.

Voting Question: Unlock HTC Evo for use in Australia?
I purchased an HTC Evo (NOT 3d) in the US back in May. I moved to Australia the following August. Haven’t been using the Evo since then because the network isn’t available here. However, yesterday I noticed a cell phone store advertising the new HTC Evo 3D. I asked the sales clerk about using my Evo in Australia (since I still have it and the plan is still in effect), and he said that I could if I “unlocked” it. Is this so? What does unlocking even mean? And how would I be able to do that?
ETA: I’m using Sprint if that makes a difference.

Open Question: Can an employer keep personal information from a company issued cell phone?
The company I worked for issued me a phone that I was required to use for work and that I would be able to use it as personal too since I was an outside sales rep and spent most of my time on the road. Since one of the perks was a paid cell phone and I was able to use it as my personal one I had the cell phone number I had for 5 years transferred and gave up my old cell phone plan. I was terminated and they took the phone from me right on the spot without letting me transfer any information for example my contacts and photos. I was recently notified by another employee that they had been going through my phone reading old text messages. Hr told me that my contacts and other personal stuff like pictures would be sent to me, but they haven’t. A friend of mine forgot that they took the phone from me and was trying to text me and the owner responded to his text. I know that the phone is the company’s property, but I was wondering if that since I was able to have it as my personal phone as well, if they are able to keep the personal data from me?

Open Question: When money is an issue between partners in a relationship is that a problem?

Resolved Question: Someone help me with my daughters math homework! Only 5 questions! Linear functions and equations! PLEASE!?!?
I feel embarrassed to not know how to tell her if her answers are correct and help her if they’re wrong. So if some kind person knows how to do this, it would be appreciated!
Here is what her paper says exactly. ——

Pedro is planning to add the text messaging feature to his cell phone. He has gathered info about the two different plans offered by the phone company.
Plan A: $4.00 per month plus 4 cents for each message.
Plan B: 5 cents per message.

1. Use the mathematics you have been studying in this unit to provide Pedro with the following info for each plan.

a. *table of data
* a graph of the data
* the linear function that fits this plan
* the domain and range of the function.

b. Plan B
*table of data
* a graph of the data
* the linear function that fits this plan
* the domain and range of the function.
(dont need to do the graphs and tables)

2. If Pedro sends 360 messages on average each month, which plan would you recommend that he choose? What info or mathematics can you use to support your recommendation?

3.If Pedro knows that his average usage is going to increase to 500 text messages per month on average, should he change to a different plan? Explain your reasoning.

4. Do either of the plans represent a direct variation? Explain.

5. Pedro’s friend Candice is considering another text messaging plan that advertises: “Monthly text plan varies inversely as the number of text messages sent.” The sales person gives Candice the example that she can send 450 messages for 80 cents per message.

a. Write an inverse variation equation that related the per-message rate and the number of text messages.

b. Candice knows that she has about 1800 text messages per month. In a short note, use an example to let Candice know if you think this would be a good deal for her

In a short note, use an example to let Candice know if you think this would be a good deal for her.

Resolved Question: As a parent do you think this is unfair?
So for Christmas my brother and I always get an expensive gift from Santa even though we are both teenagers. Haha anyways, santa got me a handwritten giftcard that said I could get pick out any cell phone and $50 would go towards it plus a data plan but if I wanted a more expensive phone I’d have to use my own money. I bought a phone for $50 bucks but then a week later it went on sale for free. So my mom called and they said they would give her her $50 bucks back. The only thing is that she comes up to my room, tells me. And then says yeah but I’m keeping the $50 bucks.I told her I thought that was extremely unfair but she said “you wouldn’t have even known it was free in the first place and we were getting money back if a hadnt told you.” do I sound just like a snotty teenager or do you think this is unfair? Thanks:)

Open Question: It’s embarrassing to ask, but “where do I go from here?”?
So, after some months upon months of not using Yahoo answers, I have gotten back into it, and as a result, seem to have rediscovered the power of the community.

In light of this, I seem to be in a bit of a no-man’s-land in my life right now which I am experiencing an increasing level of pressure to get resolved.

So, let me brief you on the situation which is my life:

- In grade ten, I began to feel very poorly about school
- During this time, I ran a small business buying and selling electronics
- Before I had turned 16, I had grossed about $20,000 in sales of refurbished blackberries, operating as just me with a cell phone and a craigslist account
- Besides this distracting me from school, I also had little interest in the content taught, and to top that off, could not adapt to the style of learning which traditionally included textbooks and lectures
- This having persistently gotten to me, I decided to drop out of high school eight weeks into the eleventh grade
- I began to sit somewhat “dead in the water” for about half a year
- I continued with blackberry sales, albeit in a dying market, and tried to start my own online business
- Said business never took off due to liability issues I had not factored
- I then started a job at a call center, where I am still employed on a day-to-day basis, and gained much experience making cold calls and sales, having made in the neighbourhood of 150,000 solicitation calls
- During this time, I also worked to attain my real estate license, which had been my dream since the age of 12
- Since then, I’ve closed one lease deal and have had one condo listed for a little over a month now which seems to have a respectable volume of interest so far
- Now that I’ve been into real estate for nearly a year, I’m seeing less and less potential in it.
- Everybody says that it’s because I’m only 19 years old, but the reason why I see so little potential is that the human behaviours associated with making sales are so lacking in logic that my approach which is heavily conditioned to B2B has difficulty in gaining traction
- I’ve come to conclude that this sort of frustration is exactly what people mean by the phrase “that’s life”
- I’ve also come to conclude that starting my own business will be a lot more difficult than I had once thought it would be. Call me a conspiracy theorist for it, but governments are making it harder and harder for one to start a business. So many things being free have caused people to be unwilling to pay for things. A practical inspiration has not struck me in a few years now, and for that reason, I’ve succumbed to the reality that I may have to become the guy who works in a regular job that I never wanted to be, and was too much of a proud entrepreneur to accept
- I’ve also come to conclude that my ability to work in a job that pays half decent will likely require a skillset foundation of some sort, in the most probable of cases, attained by some sort of post-secondary education
- I’ve also come to conclude that as a result of my parents separating, and the house being put up for sale within the next three years, I’m not going to have forever to keep taking chances to earn an income which I can support myself on
- And finally, I’ve come to conclude that I’ve got to do something differently, but the question is what?
- My main obstacle is that I can’t learn in a normal classroom/textbook environment
- Gaining admission as a mature student will be easy for me. While many colleges and universities say the age minimum is 21, this is not legal under Ontario Human Rights laws, and I have certainty that I can successfully challenge this with correspondence to their legal department
- If my last point did not hint it, I will come out and say that law is my primary area of interest. I study intellectual property law for fun.
- So, if I could choose an industry or niche to be in, it would be law
- But the question is, what is the best way for me to pursue this with only a grade 10 education and an inability to learn in an ordinary academic environment?

Such options are not known to me. And any insight into alternatives, or, in all honesty, whatever it takes to get the job done, would be very much appreciated.

Particularly thoughts which are outside of the box. As I have thoroughly explored the inside of the box and seen very little.

Resolved Question: what kind of contract is this and what are the legal elements?
CircuitMania just developed a groundbreaking new computer chip that
operates 3x as fast as any other computer chip on the market. Jones, a
salesperson for CircuitMania, visits Super Cell Co. to discuss the
application of their new computer chip in the new version of Super Cell
Co.s Omega Phone.

Super Cell Cos president, Thomas, has been in discussions with their
long-time chip supplier, The Chip Factory, to design newer and faster
computer chips for Super Cells new Omega phone for six months. The
Chip Factory had developed a new state of the art computer chip for
use in the new Omega phone, but CircuitManias new chip was still far
superior. The Chip Factory, expecting an 80% growth in revenue from
the chips they were developing for Super Cell, began to expand their
manufacturing facilities and started ordering chip parts from all over
the world to gear up to fill the orders they believed they were going
to get from Super Cell.

Thomas, the president of Super Cell, meets with Jones and listens to
his sales pitch on the benefits of using CircuitManias new super fast
computer chip. Three days after their discussion, Thomas calls Jones
and leaves a voice mail message with Joness office stating that he
loves the new super fast computer chip that CircuitMania developed and
that Super Cell will by as many of the new computer chips as
CircuitMania can manufacture over the next three years at the price
that Jones quoted. Jones, unfortunately, had suffered a stroke a day
before and was in a coma at the hospital. Joness assistant listened
to the voice mail and relayed the message to the president of
CircuitMania. However, nobody at CircuitMania could locate any
information about the particular offer that Jones had made to Thomas.

Thomas, after leaving the message for Jones, called The Chip Factory
and told them to immediately stop designing and/or producing any
computer chips for Super Cells Omega phone.

One week after Thomas left the voice mail message for Jones indicating
that he would purchase the computer chips from CircuitMania, the United
States Government passes a federal law that bans the production of any
electronic product or component that contains mercury. As it turns
out, CircuitManias new chip is manufactured using a high level of
mercury. The chips are manufactured in Brazil, where there is no ban
on the use of mercury in electronic products. Most of the mercury
purchased by CircuitMania was provided by their long-time supplier
Mercury Mountain Co., which was located in Billings, Montana&..

Discuss what legal issues may impact all of the parties to this fact
scenario. What rights and/or remedies to the parties potentially have
to rely upon? What additional facts would be helpful to support your
conclusions? Be sure to identify the contractual issues and describe
all the legal elements that relate to those issues. Identify any
possible parties not named or discussed that may be impacted by the
actions of all of the parties to this transaction? If so, what rights
and/or remedies might those parties have.
this is for business and law class homework

A large company pays its salespeople on a commission basis. The salespeople receive $200 per week plus 9% of their gross sales for that week. For example, a salesperson who sells $5000 worth of merchandise in a week receives $200 plus 9% of $5000, or a total of $650. You’ve been supplied with a list of the items sold by each salesperson. The values of these items are as follows:
Item Value
1 239.99

There’s an easy fix to curbing cell phone thieves
The idea that your smart phone could make you vulnerable to a thief has triggered a strong reaction.
Open Question: PEP Cancellation (Future Shop)?
I got Sony Ericson arc from FS in September and got the $55 dollar plan from Rogers. The sales representative then insisted that I get the service plan from FS for the cell phone, at first I declined the offer about 3 times then she kept insisting. I didn’t want to be stuck paying $14 a month for 3 years, I told her, but then she said that if I did not need the service plan I could get it cancelled at any time in the 3 years (This is what made me accept the service plan). Just yesterday I called FS to get the plan cancelled but the representative said that I could not cancel the plan after 30 days have passed since my purchase. So I read the terms of the service plan and it said the if there is any misrepresentation that I could get the service plan cancelled.

I am so confused, I am student on a budget and I could really use the $14 that I waste on the service plan for better use, and in the 3 years I am losing more then $500. But I don’t see any reason why FS would not cancel my PEP because it was their representative that misled me with false information.

Also the representative seemed to be a new employee as she kept asking for help from other representatives.

Item Value
1 239.99
2 129.75
3 99.95
4 350.89

Open Question: Was I taken advantage of? Work question? What do I do?
Recently I became unemployed and got a job for an advertising firm.
I booked appointments over the phone cold calling.
However, I only got one sale and my boss thought it would be a good idea to take away my promised base pay because then I’d be more determined to get a sale.
She said she would pay for the days i worked w/the guaranteed base.
I had to wait 3 days for the check so I went to meetings and was doing print shops.
I realized I was wasting time and most ppl. quit by the 2nd day.

So on the one of the days I was working for free, I went to a print shop and the owner explained he lost a lot of accounts because of the economy and was really nice. He gave me props for doing the “hardest job” which is selling.

I couldn’t convince him enough to buy something he couldn’t afford at the time even though he wasted my time of driving there.

It was hard because my boss did not want me leaving the meeting without closing the deal and if I couldn’t convince him of this wonderful service, I would have to use my own cell phone and get her on the phone with him.

Sorry this is so long.

Well I was quitting anyway right so he told me he wanted to give me memo pads. (5 wrapped up in plastic with his business card on it)
It was a way that he got business by having college students/retirees drop them off at businesses around towns.
For example, if they need business cards, menus, promotion flyers they remember to call him because of all the memo pads with his name on it.

Well I agreed and he put 2 boxes in my car.
He explained that he would give me $25 a box.
As I was leaving he said, “Yeah if you want to say 8 boxes, I can give you $100.”
I ignored it and acted like I didn’t hear it.

So I left the scam job of selling advertising and yesterday I went to 5 different towns and walked up and down the block handing them all out to local businesses.
I called him and let him know that I was ready to be paid and he said he would have my money and a couple more boxes.

Now I’m 23, I went to college.
I suppose I am doing crazier things then I would normally do because of this economy.
I went to get paid and he wasn’t there.
His wife was.
She was like, “oh theres 2 boxes outside for you”
(there really heavy-no help nothing. I mean it would of been nice. There is 50 per box)

Anyway, I was nice and polite and thanked her when I got the envelope with my $50.
I opened it up and there was only $25.
Obviously this was not a mess up.

He changed the price on me!
So I told my mom about it and she told me to call him and tell him, that I got paid wrong and where is my money?
She said if he pulls something like, Oh you misunderstood.

Then tell him to come here and pick the boxes up.

I mean he was a “nice guy” but I feel taken advantage of.
I did it for 3 hours and used $10 of gas going from town to town.
Thats like $5 an hour.
I made more money in h.s. cleaning tables. No lie.

So what should I do?
Do you think this is wrong?

I guess I should not have bothered to get involved.

****Oh and the best part is the wife told me that they had several calls from all these local businesses.
So me being cute dressed up and smiling as I walked in to all these potential business clients for him worked!
How rude?
Don’t ya think?
Oh and he is 25 miles from my house so I am getting his name out where no one has even heard of him in my area.

Voting Question: How to handle issues with a coworker who is also the owner’s son?
I work for a family owned company and i get along fine with my boss (also the president/ceo) until recently when he hired his son (son only by marriage) who is 25 yrs old and watches what I do constantly and puts things in his dad head that are totally not true about me so then his dad starts believing it too…I will be working there 3 yrs in August as a sales rep and know how to do my job and it’s very insulting and humiliating to me that his dad would even think I’m not doing my job when my sales record should show that…I used to be a Customer Support supervisor for another company (i resigned) for 8 years and am very experienced as well as professional and when I am at work, I WORK. There is one other sales girl that sits in the cubicle next to mine who texts on her cell all day long (we’re not allowed to have cell phones in the building) makes mistakes constantly, but has all the larger accounts so I guess they think she’s working harder…the biggest issue is that they think I’m not making enough daily sales call because when they look at their phone mine isn’t lit up…but tell
me that I need to make at least 15-20 calls a day, which is fine and I do…but because my phone isn’t lit up when they look at it…they think i’m not making calls…I have to turn in a call report everyday and my boss reviews them at night and then leaves it on my desk for the morning..the other day I never got one of my reports back…the other sales girl tells me that the son didn’t believe I made all the calls on the report so he went through and called my customers back to see if i had really made those calls…she also told me that he asks her to listen to see if i’m really making calls..when the person they should be watching is her..!! she is on the phone alright but on personal
calls so they think she’s on the phone alot…anyway, still haven’t got that report back and don’t even care to ask for it at this point…today i had made about 15 calls..so I started doing other work and i get a call from my boss asking me what i was doing!! I told him i was entering orders and then i was going to type up some quotes and he just says “oh, ok”. He has never asked me that before. it is very disturbing to me to be treated so unfairly and it’s only like this when his son (who doesn’t even know what he’s doing) is in the office.. can’t discuss with his dad because he always backs him up..i feel i can’t ever do enough….any suggestions? it’s driving me crazy and stressing me out big time.
I appreciate all your suggestions…and believe me..I have thought about looking for another job, but I make almost $25.00 an hour, they pay dental and medical insurance and I’ve never been fired from any job…plus it’s alot of work looking for another job but i guess in the long run it would be worth it

Resolved Question: HELP! I have a situation that I need advise on.?
I was out having a cocktail with a very good friend of mine a few nights ago and she had someone take a photo of us using her cell phone. After viewing the picture, she sent it in a text message to a friend of hers. Apparently she sat her phone on top of my black jacket which was sitting on top of the table next to her jacket, purse & our drinks. Later, I stood up and grabbed my jacket and something fell to the floor. We both looked to see what it was and of course it was her phone. Unfortunately the screen was shattered. I felt bad and offered to help pay to have it repaired. The next day, she avoided my telephone calls and text messages. Finally, later in the afternoon she sent me a text and said that she was at T-Mobile and that she didn’t have insurance on her phone and they no longer offered the same model phone as hers. She wanted to know what I wanted to do about it. So, I said we should send it off to be repaired and she said NO! When I asked why she replied by saying that she couldn’t go without her phone because it is her life line. I explained that if we send it off through T-Mobile that they would offer a loaner phone while hers is being repaired and she said that she didn’t want to have to learn a new phone while hers if being repaired. I then stated that T-Mobile sales refurbished phones but she denied that as a possibility and she then added that she doesn’t want anything purchased from ebay either because their is no guarantee with those purchases. At that time she tells me that upgraded model is $499.00 and that I should go with her to T-Mobile to get it. I’m sorry but there is no way in hell that I was going to buy her a brand new upgraded model when it wasn’t my fault her phone got broke. Actually, she is the one at fault for sitting her black phone on top of my black jacket. Am I missing something here? I mean Geez! I was just trying to be a good friend because I know how devistating it is to have such a incident take place. As of a matter of fact, I probably would have paid for half of the cost of an upgrade but now that she is being so unreasonable and bitchy about it, I’m not so sure she is as good of a friend as I had thought. So what do you think? What would you do? Should I just let it go and forget it happened and see what she does or should I purchase a used, same model phone and mail it to her and then wash my hands of it or just let her take me to small claims court? I am just baffled here. I need some good advise here. We have known each other for 25 years.
